Ms. Tori Cooper (she, her, hers) is HRC’s Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative. Tori brings many years of advocacy working on behalf of the transgender community, persons living with HIV and marginalized people across the country. She brings to the HRC team a long history of fighting for health and financial equity for those whom traditional systems have failed. Tori earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and is matriculating towards her Master of Arts degree at Ashford University. Prior to joining the HRC team, she created Advocates for Better Care Atlanta, serving as a Health & Equity Consultant providing capacity assistance, curriculum development, and multi-disciplinary training for large and small organizations. She served as a Prevention Specialist, Health Educator, Trans Coordinator, and a variety of other roles at community-based organizations. She is a Subject Matter Expert with the CDC, Public Health Advisor, and Consultant. Over the last thirty years, Tori has built a reputation for excellence as it pertains to increasing visibility, access and opportunities for Black people, people living with HIV, and transgender communities. Tori is a proud Black, transgender woman who aims to inspire through excellence. She is dedicated to improving health outcomes and advancing policies that bring greater equity for all of the communities that she represents.
Watch PresentationDownload PresentationRev. Rhina Ramos is an ordained United Church of Christ minister leading an open and affirming Spanish speaking congregation in Oakland since 2011. Rhina also coordinates Proyecto Encuentros de Gracia y Bienvenida for the UCC National Office. Rhina was born in El Salvador and grew up during the civil war. Embedded in her heart is the voice of San Romero de Las Americas denouncing oppression from the pulpit. Rhina graduated from Hofstra University Law School in 1995. She also obtained a Masters in Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion in 2003. While in NY, she practiced labor law for 5 years recuperating thousands of dollars in unpaid wages for immigrant workers. Rhina is too an experienced Community Organizer who has led programs and campaigns for educational equity, labor rights, LGBTQ human rights, international solidarity with El Salvador, and domestic violence prevention.
